Batik Shirts

today marks the last day of ramadhan for us in jakarta, though some have celebrated the eid today too. it's one of the traditions to celebrate eid mubarak or idul fitri by shopping for new clothes, just to look best on the eid. even though the most favorite clothes are the muslims attire, batik shirts are also an option and sold throughout the shopping places. there are different variety of them, with different price ranges also, depending on the quality of the fabric and the batik. so, which one would you like? ;) on behalf of jakarta daily photo family, i wish eid mubarak, 1 syawal 1427 H to those who celebrate it. minal aidin wal faidzin. let's start the new year with a clean slate, and forgive us for any wrongdoings or sayings we may have done. sincerely, jakarta daily photo family

The batik style is beautiful but so hot! Long sleeves in that temperature??? We went to a wedding in Semarang this summer and I borrowed a friend's so I could blend in but I think all the sweating may have given me away as a foreigner.

Or maybe it's all the "natural insulation" that Americans have that makes it so hot to wear...

I was astonished to find, in the local Trade Aid shop, the wood blocks for batik. I'm not sure where tehy are from, but they are very intricate and beautiful, and these are not the tiny stuff, but 10cm x 10cm or so, and some bigger. And I believe used. I just hope your crafts people are keeping all they need for their work!

very beautiful and well said! This is a very beautiful religion that should be shown more in the media - it has a good principle for living
